We each
average 9 unused vacation days per year.

All work and no play makes for an abundance of leftover leave. The typical American worker let 9.2 vacation days slip away in 2012—a 48-percent increase from the previous year—according to a survey commissioned by Hotwire.com and conducted by Harris
Interactive. Of the more than 2,000 adults polled, 87 percent said they’d be inclined to use the time if they had the funds to do so. “The want to travel is certainly there, but if we don’t find a great deal to keep us within our restricted budgets, we won’t take that trip,” says Pierre-Etienne Chartier, Hotwire’s vice president of operations. “One of the best times to score big savings is during the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.” Bargain prices and time off to spare—now that’s something to be thankful for.
