The longest song will last 639 years.

The title of the sluggish
musical composition? “As Slow As Possible,” by John Cage. Figures. The composer, who died in 1992, once said, “If something is boring after two minutes, try it for four… Eventually one discovers
that it is not boring at all.”
As a fitting tribute to Cage, an unmanned pipe organ housed in St. Burchardi Church in the German town of Halberstadt will play for the next six centuries. The recital, which began on September 5, 2001, continues thanks to weights that hold down the organ’s keys, and underground ductwork that provides the necessary gusts of air. The next chord change takes place on the 5th of this month. Can’t make it? Not to worry, it’ll be another 627 years before the music stops.
